About Bur Oak

The toughest of the large native oaks: deep rooted, drought and alkaline tolerant, with the biggest leaves and acorns of any Texas oak. Slow to start and then a broad, long-lived shade tree.

Where it is used: North and Central Texas parks, streets and open sites where a large, durable deciduous tree is wanted.
